Cannabis concentrates: You should know!

purplekush By purplekush January 5, 2022

The world of cannabis comprises significant components, namely cannabinoids and terpenes, which are produced by the delicate flowering plant cannabis sativa. Cannabis concentrates (or marijuana concentrates) have different chemical compositions, but they all have one thing in common; they contain high levels of THC. The chemical composition of cannabis concentrate mainly depends on how the cannabis concentrate is extracted from the plant.

What is cannabis concentrate?

Cannabis concentrate is a highly concentrated cannabis product made by extraction. All other plant components (impurities) will be removed during the extraction process, so only the necessary compounds, namely cannabinoids and terpenes, can be completely purified. Among all the cannabinoids extracted from the cannabis plant, we usually find: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is psychoactive, but cannabidiol (CBD) does not. Concentration refers to the cannabis plant that has undergone an extraction process-this process-to remove excess plant material, leaving only cannabinoids and terpenes.

Cannabinoids and terpenes

To date, scientists have discovered more than 110 different cannabinoids and more than 120 terpenes in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids and terpenes are produced in the trichomes of the cannabis plant, which cover the tiny white crystalline parts of the cannabis plant that look like tiny mushrooms. These microscopic outgrowths are found on the surface of plant buds and leaves.

They surround budding cannabis flowers and produce plant cannabinoids. The trichomes make the cannabis plant sticky, and they play an important role in protecting the cannabis plant from insects. There are different trichomes available for smokeless, long-lasting high concentrations, and they are used to produce so-called cannabis concentrates.

Terpenes are responsible for making cannabis concentrates aromatic and easy to eat. Terpenes not only give each cannabis strain a unique taste and aroma, but also can change or enhance psychoactive and medicinal effects.

THC and CBD: The two main cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plant are CBD and THC. THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid responsible for the euphoria associated with cannabis. Simply put, THC is a psychotropic compound that causes “high”.

Although THC levels vary by cannabis species, concentrates usually contain very high THC. Cannabinoids, especially CBD and THC, act on the endocannabinoid system (ECS) of the human body and the brain. THC and CBD are probably the most famous cannabis compounds.
